We’ve been diving into the children’s interest in holidays and beach adventures - because who doesn’t love a bit of seaside sunshine? 🏖️

We talked all about what we might find on the beach - from crabs to seaweed and sun hats - and brought the magic into our play space with a themed continuous provision area 🐚

One of the stars of the show? Playdough! 🌊 Soft, squidgy and full of possibilities, it’s more than just fun - it’s a powerful learning tool. Here’s why we love it:
– Builds fine motor skills (hello strong fingers for future writers!)
– Sparks creativity and imagination
– Encourages language and social interaction as children share tools and ideas
– Offers a calming, sensory-rich experience that supports emotional wellbeing

Whether it’s making shell imprints, sculpting sandcastles or creating tiny beach creatures, playdough lets children explore big ideas in a way that’s hands-on, meaningful and joyful.

Our Bright Kids Rockery Adventures have been an absolute hit - the children are not just exploring water… they’re exploring themselves 🌈

Water play is more than just fun (though it’s definitely that, too!) 💦 It’s packed with developmental benefits that support children across all areas of learning and growth, such as:

👐 Fine motor skills – pouring, squeezing and scooping strengthen little fingers
💪 Gross motor skills – lifting buckets or carrying water helps build full-body strength
🧠 STEM thinking – concepts like floating, volume and movement are explored naturally
💬 Language development – describing what they feel, see and imagine
🎭 Imagination – turning puddles into potions and trickles into waterfalls
🤝 Social-emotional growth – taking turns, problem-solving and working together
💙 Soothing sensory play – perfect for calming busy minds

We’ve loved seeing how confidently the children approach the water, experiment with the rockery, and challenge themselves physically and creatively. These moments may look like play - but they’re also the building blocks of independence, resilience and discovery.

Last week, our little ones were full of energy as we dove into two exciting throwing and catching games - and the smiles were absolutely everywhere! 🥎😄

In early years, physical play means so much more than just running around. It helps children:
– Strengthen gross motor skills through climbing, jumping and balancing
– Develop fine motor control - even something as small as zipping up a coat
– Learn teamwork, confidence and resilience through active play
– Build language and numeracy by counting throws, describing movements, and cheering each other on 🗣️🔢

Whether it’s a game of catch, an adventure on the climbing frame or simply pretending to be racing cheetahs, movement is a joyful part of how children learn, grow and thrive 🏃‍♀️

Why not try a game of “catch and count” at home - how many times can you throw and catch before someone drops the ball? It's great fun and perfect for both number skills and bonding time! ✨
